A STUDY OF INJURED TEETH BY TRAUMA IN CHILDREN


Abstract
Of the 4,319 patients who made initial visits to the De )artment of Pedodontics in Kyung Hee Medical Ce rter from 1985. 3. 1 to 1988. 2. 29, 204 patients with traumatic tooth injuries were categorized according to se> , age, cause of injury, type of injury, number ofinjured teeth, and treatment method. The following results were obtained:
1) Patients with traumatic injuries accounted for 4.7 % of the total.
2) The ratio of males to females was 2:1.
3) The largest age group was 2-to 3-year olds, accounting for 34.8% of the total.
4) The major cause of injury was accidental falls, accounting for 63.2% of total.
5) The most common injury site was the upper central
incisor in both deciduous and permanent dentition
6) The peak incidence of injury was the case of one
tooth, the situation in 47.5% of all cases.
7) Of the type of injury, subluxation had the peak level of incidence in deciduous dentition at 27.3% while extrusion reached 31.1% in permanent dentition.
8) In the incidence of treatment method, splint were utilized in 45.2% of all cases.
